Retrofit Lighting

There are three alternatives to consider when upgrading to more energy efficient lighting – retrofitting, replacing or relamping. Retrofitting involves replacing just the electrical and/or optical components of an existing fixture. Replacement involves replacing the entire fixture, ideally without any alteration to the ceiling. Relamping can be accomplished simply by upgrading to self-ballasted lamps. Although relamping seems to be the easiest solution, most self-ballasted lamps are not designed to be enclosed in fixtures. Doing so will cause the lamp to run over temperature, significantly reducing light output and performance.
